ok, since my last post i have learned much about soccer. for starters, i will point out that the socks are actually worn OVER the shin guards (apparently i either misunderstood my friend's instructions re: socks or she was just being cruel). this is an important point because, as my mother always said, it's not how you play the game...it's how you look when you play the game. and shin guards over socks is a bad first impression.

secondly, it's important to set expectations. if you shamelessly tell everybody up front that it's your first game and you don't know anything, they are much more likely to throw grace in your direction. then, if you just happen to do something semi-well, everyone is very complimentary. i have found this to be a good tactic.

lastly, the position most akin to right field is the "fullback." these particular players do less running than the halfbacks. i think i will make a fine fullback...
