as some of you may know, i am a Professional Services Engineer. as i have already discussed, this is a somewhat nondescript title that bears no resemblance to my actual daily activities. in the nine months that i have worked here, i have yet to engage in a single professional service.

having laid that groundwork for you, let me tell you a little story. my company is undergoing some significant changes and part of those changes involve merging a couple of new groups into the organization. we had a meeting yesterday to introduce everyone and discuss where the company is headed, etc. imagine a big fat organization chart projected onto the wall and there, in one of the nice squares, is me: Carrie Ward, Professional Services Engineer. for some inexplicable reason, i was asked to introduce myself first and spend a couple of minutes telling everyone what i do. "i wish i knew!" was the first thought that crossed my mind. so, there i was trying to explain to a bunch of important strangers what it is that i do, at least in theory. i debated on whether or not to tell them that my main duties included eating snickers and picking dust out of my keyboard or if i should make up something a little more flowery.
