i was jolted out of my pre-dawn slumber when the sound of hissing water hit my bedroom window. did the neighbors put in a sprinkler system? no, couldn't be. i don't have neighbors on that side. do i have a sprinkler system? i've certainly never noticed one. wouldn't i have noticed one? how could i not have noticed one?

i got up out of bed to go check and discovered that i did, indeed, have a sprinkler system. i climbed back into my bed, a little befuddled. about two minutes passed and i had a vague recollection of having seen a control panel for a sprinkler system. i drug myself out of bed once more and trodded to the laundry room. sure enough, in all of its golden glory, there was the sprinkler box attached to the wall. this one sure looks new. i don't remember it looking like this before, but then, i really don't remember it at all. i wonder if they put a new one in while i was gone. wouldn't they have told me? oh wait, it's dusty on top. i guess it's been here all along. why is it just now coming on, though? i'm so confused. i need coffee.

i've got to make some phone calls today to landlords and roommates to try and get to the bottom of the mystery sprinkler. all i know is that i've been bragging about how little maintenance my yard requires. apparently it's just been maintaining itself all this time.
